Christmas 2016

The band finished the year 2016 with a couple of Christmas concerts and Carol playing:

Concerts were held in Cobham Village Hall and St Matthews Church in Surbiton.  A large selection of Christmas music was played including Stop The Cavalry,  Schneewaltzer (The Snow Waltz), In The Bleak Mid Winter and The Christmas Song as well as a number of Carols with which the audience were invited to sing.   A particular highlight was during the Snow Waltz when several members of the audience were actually waltzing!

Carols were played in Cobham High Street, the M25 Service Station and Brooklands shopping centre where money raised will be split between band funds and the charity of the year which is the Stoke Mandeville National Spinal Unit.

Autumn Contest 2016

It was an early start for the band on September 25th at the scaba Autumn contest held in the Hawth Theatre, Crawley.

This annual competition requires a hymn tune and a test piece to be played by each band.

Cobham Band was on first and after playing The National Anthem, the hymn tune chosen was Grimsby and the test piece was Music For The Royal Fireworks.

Unfortunately no prizes this time but some favourable remarks from the adjudicator regarding the quality of the sound that the band produces.

Cobham Heritage Day

The main events in the Cobham Heritage Day on September 10th took place in the Leg of Mutton field.

Unfortunately it poured down with rain which, combined with the wind, made it very difficult to play, even though (most) players were sheltered under the band gazebo.

Among the pieces that were played included Music For The Royal Fireworks, Cockney Cocktails and Something Stupid.

Play was abandoned half way through to allow the band members to go home and dry off!
