Hampton Regatta 2012

The band played on the slopes of the boat ramp at Hampton Regatta in Thames Ditton on July 21st, and basked in the start of a summer heatwave. The event was almost called off due to heavy rain and dangerous river conditions over the previous few weeks but went ahead after some more seasonal weather. The music included some nautical-themed music such as Anchors Away, Pirates of the Caribbean and Water Music.

Ken Purssey MBE

Ken Purssey, the President of The Cobham Band, has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for his services to policing and the local commmunity, for which he has performed volunteer and campaign work over the last 30 years. He has been involved with many local organisations during this time and the band congratulates him on this achievement.

Jubilee Weekend

The band took part in the Jubilee weekend celebrations, playing at ‘picnic in the park’ in Merton on Sunday and ‘Jubilee Celebrations’ in Weybridge on Monday.  Despite the inclement weather there was a good sized audience, many of whom were waving flags and singing.

Due to Musical Director Robin Langdon being away on holiday, the band was conducted by David Ruel on Sunday and Jack Smith on Monday – a big thank-you to both.

Amongst the music played were ‘Jerusalem’, ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ and, of course, ‘God Save the Queen’.
